OFFICIAL RULES

Team Name

Team names in the 2026 competition are derived from: Blah. Have fun with your name but keep it appropriate — younger participants are involved. If two teams submit the same name, preference goes to the team that finished higher in the most recent competition.

Roster Requirements

Each roster must consist of exactly 27 players:

  • 6 Forwards
  • 7 Defensemen
  • 2 Team Goalies (all goalies from a given team — max 4 total)
  • 10 Extra Players (any position, including extra goalies)
  • 1 Tough Guy (50+ PIM AND 50+ Hits this regular season)
  • 1 MN Connection (Minnesota ties — cannot be a goalie)

Team Coverage Rule

You must have at least ONE player from EACH of the 16 playoff teams.

IMPORTANT: Tough Guy and MN Connection spots do NOT count toward the team coverage requirement OR the 6F/7D position counts. Example: If your Tough Guy is a Maple Leafs player, you still need another Leafs player on your main roster.

Tough Guy Requirements

Your Tough Guy must meet BOTH minimums from the regular season:

  • 50+ Penalty Minutes (PIM)
  • 50+ Hits

Validation is automatic at submission. A player who doesn't qualify cannot be selected as Tough Guy.

MN Connection Requirements

Your MN Connection player must have ONE of the following ties to Minnesota:

  • Born in Minnesota
  • Played high school hockey in Minnesota (Shattuck-St. Mary's does NOT count)
  • Played college hockey at a Minnesota school (U of M, Duluth, St. Cloud, Mankato, Bemidji)
CANNOT BE A GOALIE

The Modano Rule

Due to a long-standing prejudice amongst League Powers, no team will ever be permitted to have Mike Modano on its roster. He was not there for North Star fans in that horrible spring of 1993. He has been retired for some time now, but we are still pretty bitter about this.
